Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Financials, Industrials and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.90%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.86%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 1.94% or 3.40 points to trade at 179.02 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 1.73% or 1.46 points to end at 85.86 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 1.63% or 0.90 points to 56.24 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM), which lost 0.13% or 0.11 points to trade at 81.58 in late trade. Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) added 0.07% or 0.07 points to end at 106.17 and General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) gained 0.27% or 0.08 points to 29.64.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which rose 3.92% to 99.23, M&T Bank Corporation (NYSE:MTB) which was up 3.91% to settle at 153.71 and Arconic Inc (NYSE:ARNC) which gained 3.05% to close at 26.69.
The worst performers were Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:INCY) which was down 10.49% to 126.07 in late trade, DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which lost 5.75% to settle at 58.79 and Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY) which was down 4.08% to 82.38 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cleveland BioLabs Inc (NASDAQ:CBLI) which rose 204.49% to 4.750, MOCON Inc (NASDAQ:MOCO) which was up 37.18% to settle at 29.70 and Medical Tra (NASDAQ:MTBC) which gained 21.43% to close at 0.5100.
The worst performers were Spi Energy Co Ltd (NASDAQ:SPI) which was down 21.31% to 0.56 in late trade, China Auto Logistics Inc (NASDAQ:CALI) which lost 21.07% to settle at 2.360 and Apricus Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:APRI) which was down 20.62% to 1.540 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2328 to 886 and 40 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1744 rose and 766 declined, while 109 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 8.08% to 14.67.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.19% or 2.50 to $1286.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.94% or 0.50 to hit $52.68 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.84% or 0.47 to trade at $55.42 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.30% to 1.0644, while USD/JPY rose 0.29% to 108.97.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 100.21.
