Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the REITs, Financials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO:KL), which rose 5.48% or 0.500 points to trade at 9.630 at the close. Klondex Mines Ltd. (TO:KDX) added 3.84% or 0.180 points to end at 4.870 and Silver Standard Resources Inc . (TO:SSO) was up 3.56% or 0.48 points to 13.97 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG), which lost 64.95% or 11.10 points to trade at 5.99 in late trade. Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) declined 11.80% or 3.08 points to end at 23.03 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TO:SSL) shed 9.19% or 0.500 points to 4.940.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 583 to 577 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.17% to 11.53.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.28% or 3.58 to $1270.78 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.59% or 0.29 to hit $49.27 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.45 to trade at $52.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.33% to 0.7344, while CAD/EUR fell 0.15% to 0.6734.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 98.83.
