Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the REITs, Real Estate and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.97%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP), which rose 7.10% or 0.26 points to trade at 3.92 at the close. MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG) added 7.02% or 0.63 points to end at 9.61 and Gibson Energy Inc . (TO:GEI) was up 6.91% or 1.28 points to 19.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW), which lost 12.00% or 0.18 points to trade at 1.32 in late trade. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) declined 9.35% or 0.65 points to end at 6.30 and Torex Gold Resources Inc . (TO:TXG) shed 8.70% or 0.120 points to 1.260.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 729 to 597 and 210 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.27% to 21.98.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.46% or 5.20 to $1132.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 3.22% or 1.45 to hit $46.47 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.29% or 1.08 to trade at $48.55 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.17% to 0.7549, while CAD/EUR rose 0.81% to 0.6745.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.71% at 96.04.
