Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Financials, Electric Power and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which rose 2.51% or 0.26 points to trade at 10.61 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 1.97% or 0.44 points to end at 22.83 and Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) was up 0.51% or 0.13 points to 25.54 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which lost 4.01% or 0.76 points to trade at 18.19 in late trade. Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) declined 3.67% or 0.71 points to end at 18.64 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) shed 3.33% or 0.49 points to 14.23.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 209 to 128 and 31 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 10.36% to 35.04.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1323.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.49% or 0.70 to hit $47.75 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 1.93% or 2.95 to trade at $150.23 .
USD/BRL was up 1.28% to 3.2595, while EUR/BRL rose 1.31% to 3.6578.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 95.42.
