Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3), which rose 9.73% or 0.47 points to trade at 5.30 at the close. Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4) added 3.98% or 0.52 points to end at 13.60 and Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) was up 2.22% or 0.270 points to 12.450 in late trade.
Biggest losers included PDG Realty SA (SA:PDGR3), which lost 3.13% or 0.010 points to trade at 0.310 in late trade. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 3.10% or 0.63 points to end at 19.69 and Oi SA (SA:OIBR4) shed 2.93% or 0.19 points to 6.29.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 178 to 131 and 6 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.02% to 29.17.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 1.41% or 16.90 to $1185.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.47% or 0.28 to hit $60.25 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 1.48% or 1.93 to trade at $132.03 .
USD/BRL was down 0.61% to 3.0796, while EUR/BRL fell 0.60% to 3.4938.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 94.52.
