Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Electric Power and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 5.69% or 0.46 points to trade at 8.55 at the close. Light SA (SA:LIGT3) added 3.10% or 0.56 points to end at 18.65 and Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) was up 3.02% or 0.57 points to 19.43 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3), which lost 6.43% or 0.58 points to trade at 8.44 in late trade. Souza Cruz SA (SA:CRUZ3) declined 5.35% or 1.41 points to end at 24.95 and Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) shed 3.91% or 0.58 points to 14.26.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 118 to 108 and 8 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.39% to 30.61.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.52% or 6.20 to $1182.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.25% or 0.15 to hit $59.24 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.17% or 0.23 to trade at $134.25 .
USD/BRL was up 2.67% to 3.0538, while EUR/BRL rose 2.15% to 3.4064.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 95.11.
