Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil, Gas & Electricity, Cement and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 0.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Taiflex Scientific Co Ltd (TW:8039), which rose 10.00% or 4.05 points to trade at 44.55 at the close. Foxsemicon Integrated Technology Inc (TW:3413) added 9.98% or 20.00 points to end at 220.50 and Pan-International Industrial Corp (TW:2328) was up 9.87% or 2.70 points to 30.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included United Microelectronics Corporation (TW:2303), which lost 7.47% or 1.15 points to trade at 14.25 in late trade. Hiyes International Co Ltd (TW:2348) declined 3.58% or 1.20 points to end at 32.35 and Novatek Microelectronics Corp (TW:3034) shed 3.29% or 4.00 points to 117.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 488 to 247 and 142 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.18% or 0.09 to $48.66 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.20% or 0.10 to hit $50.87 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 1.09% or 13.60 to trade at $1263.00 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.20% to 30.172, while TWD/CNY fell 0.27% to 0.2237.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 93.26.
