Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Manufacturing sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX rose 1.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were PIK (MCX:PIKK), which rose 3.47% or 5.50 points to trade at 163.90 at the close. MVideo (MCX:MVID) added 3.45% or 6.50 points to end at 194.90 and Surgut-pref (MCX:SNGS_p) was up 3.44% or 1.200 points to 36.100 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Akron (MCX:AKRN), which lost 5.98% or 159.0 points to trade at 2501.0 in late trade. E.ON Russia (MCX:EONR) declined 3.59% or 0.0970 points to end at 2.6050 and NLMK ao (MCX:NLMK) shed 3.04% or 2.44 points to 77.78.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 99 to 76 and 11 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 0.47% to 31.820.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.13% or 1.40 to $1095.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.25% or 1.08 to hit $49.06 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.85% or 0.46 to trade at $53.76 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 1.85% to 58.850, while EUR/RUB fell 2.18% to 64.928.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.19% at 96.94.
