Investing.com – Portugal equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Telecoms, Basic Materials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Lisbon, the PSI 20 lost 2.34% to hit a new 5-year low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the PSI 20 were CTT Correios de Portugal SA (LS:CTT), which rose 1.05% or 0.0730 points to trade at 7.0100 at the close. Banco BPI (LS:BBPI) added 0.46% or 0.0050 points to end at 1.0890 and Montepio (LS:MPIO) was down 0.20% or 0.001 points to 0.508 in late trade.
Biggest losers included The Navigator Company SA (LS:NVGR), which lost 6.65% or 0.1780 points to trade at 2.4980 in late trade. Mota Engil (LS:MOTA) declined 6.54% or 0.1000 points to end at 1.4300 and Sonae Capital (LS:SONAC) shed 5.40% or 0.0300 points to 0.5260.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 39 to 10 and 5 ended unchanged on the Lisbon Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Brent oil for September delivery was down 3.14% or 1.54 to $47.50 a barrel. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.30% or 1.57 to hit $46.07 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.26% or 3.50 to trade at $1325.90 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was down 0.87% to 1.1020, while EUR/GBP rose 2.72% to 0.8347.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.97% at 96.56.
