Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Food & Beverages, Utilities and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 2.63%, while the MDAX index fell 1.89%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Henkel AG & Co Kgaa Vzo (DE:HNKG_p), which rose 0.07% or 0.070 points to trade at 96.700 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) fell 0.97% or 0.135 points to end at 13.775 and Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN) was down 1.06% or 1.100 points to 102.750 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 5.07% or 0.750 points to trade at 14.050 in late trade. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) declined 4.97% or 9.550 points to end at 182.700 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) shed 4.83% or 0.565 points to 11.130.
The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which rose 0.76% to 27.750, LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which was up 0.70% to settle at 83.080 and Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which gained 0.53% to close at 12.245.
The worst performers were Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (DE:ZILGn) which was down 4.79% to 22.245 in late trade, Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which lost 4.61% to settle at 66.870 and Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which was down 4.61% to 27.490 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which rose 5.60% to 28.640, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was up 1.00% to settle at 44.300 and STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which gained 0.03% to close at 43.415.
The worst performers were LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which was down 4.26% to 6.500 in late trade, Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which lost 3.78% to settle at 4.535 and Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was down 3.16% to 10.265 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 660 to 183 and 26 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 8.68% to 23.42.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.89% or 10.80 to $1230.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.17% or 0.06 to hit $35.76 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.06 to trade at $37.75 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.01% to 1.1391, while EUR/GBP rose 0.79% to 0.8045.
The US Dollar Index was unchanged 0.00% at 94.59.
