Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Chemicals, Construction and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 2.58% to hit a new 1-month low, while the MDAX index declined 2.04%, and the TecDAX index fell 2.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p), which fell 1.12% or 2.650 points to trade at 235.000 at the close. E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn) fell 1.30% or 0.190 points to end at 14.455 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (XETRA:BEIG) was down 1.48% or 1.210 points to 80.820 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bayer AG NA (XETRA:BAYGN), which lost 3.92% or 5.450 points to trade at 133.500 in late trade. K & S AG NA O.N. (XETRA:SDFGN) declined 3.56% or 1.135 points to end at 30.755 and Adidas AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ADSGN) shed 3.52% or 2.680 points to 73.350.
The top performers on the MDAX were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which fell 0.04% to 11.750, Osram Licht (XETRA:OSRn) which was down 0.06% to settle at 46.974 and Sky Deutschland AG NA (XETRA:SKYDn) which lost 0.29% to close at 6.761.
The worst performers were Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (XETRA:GWIG) which was down 5.60% to 30.925 in late trade, Kloeckner & Co SE NA (XETRA:KCOGn) which lost 4.31% to settle at 9.078 and Aareal Bank AG (XETRA:ARLG) which was down 3.86% to 38.965 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which rose 0.18% to 281.200, Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which was down 0.63% to settle at 5.380 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which lost 0.71% to close at 11.965.
The worst performers were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (XETRA:AFXG) which was down 5.84% to 23.050 in late trade, QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which lost 4.93% to settle at 1.949 and Jenoptik AG O.N. (XETRA:JENG) which was down 4.92% to 11.300 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 656 to 83 and 29 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 14.16% to 21.85 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.20 to $1202.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.15% or 0.65 to hit $56.06 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.04 to trade at $63.95 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.18% to 1.0780, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.7216.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 97.81.
