Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology, Basic Resources and Software sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.72%, while the MDAX index lost 0.49%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.64%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which rose 0.75% or 0.095 points to trade at 12.825 at the close. Allianz SE VNA O.N. (XETRA:ALVG) added 0.59% or 0.900 points to end at 153.400 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DBKGn) was up 0.31% or 0.095 points to 30.730 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn), which lost 6.34% or 0.710 points to trade at 10.490 in late trade. K & S AG NA O.N. (XETRA:SDFGN) declined 2.74% or 1.035 points to end at 36.700 and Lanxess AG (XETRA:LXSG) shed 2.26% or 1.240 points to 53.600.

The top performers on the MDAX were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which rose 2.58% to 15.700, Osram Licht (XETRA:OSRn) which was up 1.85% to settle at 49.999 and Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (XETRA:BOSSn) which gained 1.36% to close at 108.400.

The worst performers were Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which was down 4.01% to 32.680 in late trade, Wacker Chemie O.N. (XETRA:WCHG) which lost 2.37% to settle at 89.390 and Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:FPEG_p) which was down 2.23% to 39.745 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which rose 6.92% to 30.455, Qiagen NV (XETRA:QGEN) which was up 1.28% to settle at 25.385 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which gained 1.08% to close at 11.730.

The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (XETRA:DLGS) which was down 5.22% to 49.730 in late trade, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which lost 2.78% to settle at 5.306 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which was down 2.18% to 35.040 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 507 to 241 and 36 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.00% to 17.84.

In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 1.05% or 11.60 to $1091.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.97% or 1.00 to hit $49.86 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.01% or 0.57 to trade at $56.47 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.55% to 1.0875, while EUR/GBP fell 0.87% to 0.6968.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.50% at 97.90.
