Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Financial Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.18%, while the MDAX index lost 0.75%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG), which rose 2.01% or 2.300 points to trade at 116.450 at the close. Daimler AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DAIGn) added 1.28% or 1.120 points to end at 88.720 and Adidas AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ADSGN) was up 0.82% or 0.580 points to 71.010 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which lost 2.88% or 0.385 points to trade at 12.985 in late trade. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn) declined 1.47% or 0.160 points to end at 10.750 and E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn) shed 1.36% or 0.195 points to 14.110.
The top performers on the MDAX were Airbus Group (XETRA:AIRG) which rose 2.81% to 60.260, Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ZILGn) which was up 0.78% to settle at 28.445 and Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which gained 0.04% to close at 11.415.
The worst performers were Wacker Chemie O.N. (XETRA:WCHG) which was down 3.17% to 108.450 in late trade, Leoni AG NA O.N. (XETRA:LEOGn) which lost 2.90% to settle at 58.210 and Aareal Bank AG (XETRA:ARLG) which was down 2.85% to 39.700 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which rose 4.12% to 4.376, LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which was up 2.04% to settle at 10.500 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (XETRA:NEKG) which gained 0.52% to close at 124.500.
The worst performers were Morphosys AG O.N. (XETRA:MORG) which was down 11.30% to 60.990 in late trade, SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which lost 10.14% to settle at 11.385 and Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which was down 4.04% to 5.819 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 558 to 175 and 36 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.99% to 19.02.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.62% or 7.40 to $1204.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.80% or 1.87 to hit $51.08 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 4.72% or 2.67 to trade at $59.15 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.67% to 1.0896, while EUR/GBP fell 0.49% to 0.7336.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.45% at 97.51.
