Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Technology and Transportation & Logistics sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 1.52%, while the MDAX index gained 0.99%, and the TecDAX index climbed 1.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which rose 2.88% or 0.540 points to trade at 19.260 at the close. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) added 2.73% or 0.228 points to end at 8.589 and Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) was up 2.70% or 0.895 points to 34.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which lost 1.61% or 0.180 points to trade at 10.970 in late trade. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) declined 0.90% or 0.150 points to end at 16.440 and Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) shed 0.40% or 0.135 points to 33.885.
The top performers on the MDAX were Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which rose 4.76% to 47.975, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was up 4.07% to settle at 40.69 and Rational AG (BS:RAAd) which gained 3.49% to close at 504.30.
The worst performers were Schaeffler AG Pref (DE:SHA_p) which was down 1.54% to 12.16 in late trade, Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which lost 0.69% to settle at 35.450 and Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which was down 0.65% to 44.91 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which rose 7.91% to 84.080, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was up 3.58% to settle at 92.790 and Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which gained 2.94% to close at 14.535.
The worst performers were GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which was down 3.52% to 15.630 in late trade, Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which lost 0.82% to settle at 11.435 and Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which was down 0.79% to 7.140 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 581 to 177 and 22 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 7.14% to 13.12.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.53% or 6.41 to $1221.11 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.07% or 0.48 to hit $45.52 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.31 to trade at $47.83 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.44% to 1.1415, while EUR/GBP fell 0.78% to 0.8856.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 95.53.
