Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Chemicals, Basic Resources and Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.19%, while the MDAX index added 0.06%, and the TecDAX index added 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING), which rose 4.73% or 7.100 points to trade at 157.200 at the close. BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) added 2.94% or 2.310 points to end at 80.990 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) was up 2.49% or 0.160 points to 6.573 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which lost 1.61% or 0.200 points to trade at 12.225 in late trade. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) declined 1.47% or 0.235 points to end at 15.780 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) shed 1.33% or 0.160 points to 11.860.
The top performers on the MDAX were STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which rose 4.65% to 46.090, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was up 3.20% to settle at 60.630 and Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which gained 2.31% to close at 30.830.
The worst performers were Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which was down 2.64% to 35.780 in late trade, Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which lost 2.41% to settle at 24.725 and Kion Group AG (DE:KGX) which was down 2.28% to 53.48 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which rose 2.95% to 37.855, Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was up 2.52% to settle at 3.702 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which gained 2.28% to close at 70.100.
The worst performers were Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which was down 2.28% to 175.500 in late trade, GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which lost 1.76% to settle at 19.020 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was down 1.71% to 42.000 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 483 to 413 and 31 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.04% to 19.90.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 1.31% or 15.55 to $1175.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 8.42% or 3.81 to hit $49.04 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 8.77% or 4.15 to trade at $51.47 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.63% to 1.0583, while EUR/GBP fell 0.49% to 0.8483.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.68% at 101.67.
