Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas Producers, Oil & Gas and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 5.35% to hit a new 6-month low, while the SBF 120 index lost 5.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin SCA (PARIS:MICP), which fell 2.35% or 2.00 points to trade at 83.19 at the close. Valeo SA (PARIS:VLOF) fell 2.69% or 2.90 points to end at 105.00 and Publicis Groupe SA (PARIS:PUBP) was down 2.80% or 1.73 points to 60.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AMS:ISPA), which lost 9.48% or 0.70 points to trade at 6.67 in late trade. Kering SA (PARIS:PRTP) declined 8.22% or 13.10 points to end at 146.25 and Total SA (PARIS:TOTF) shed 7.90% or 3.25 points to 37.84.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Teleperformance (PARIS:ROCH) which fell 0.51% to 60.30, Euler Hermes (PARIS:ELER) which was down 0.52% to settle at 89.54 and Elis Services SA (PARIS:ELIS) which lost 0.64% to close at 13.99.
The worst performers were ArcelorMittal SA (AMS:ISPA) which was down 9.48% to 6.67 in late trade, Maurel Et Prom (PARIS:MAUP) which lost 9.33% to settle at 4.18 and Remy Cointreau (PARIS:RCOP) which was down 8.26% to 51.78 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 831 to 29 and 24 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 38.58% to 39.01 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.26% or 3.00 to $1156.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 3.46% or 1.40 to hit $39.05 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.77% or 1.72 to trade at $43.74 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.57% to 1.1562, while EUR/GBP rose 1.17% to 0.7341.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.29% at 93.62.
