Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrial Engineering and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 2.27% to hit a new 3-month low, while the SBF 120 index lost 2.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Pernod Ricard (PARIS:PERP), which fell 0.63% or 0.65 points to trade at 102.60 at the close. EDF (PARIS:EDF) fell 0.69% or 0.14 points to end at 19.53 and Publicis Groupe SA (PARIS:PUBP) was down 0.94% or 0.62 points to 65.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Technip (PARIS:TECF), which lost 8.27% or 4.45 points to trade at 49.30 in late trade. Arcelormittal (AMS:ISPA) declined 6.41% or 0.54 points to end at 7.89 and Peugeot SA (PARIS:PEUP) shed 4.68% or 0.87 points to 17.73.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Eurofins Scientific (PARIS:EUFI) which rose 1.78% to 279.65, Innate Pharma (PARIS:IPH) which was up 1.04% to settle at 13.570 and Virbac (PARIS:VIRB) which gained 0.91% to close at 200.05.
The worst performers were Technip (PARIS:TECF) which was down 8.27% to 49.30 in late trade, CGG (PARIS:GEPH) which lost 7.22% to settle at 4.34 and Vallourec (PARIS:VLLP) which was down 7.19% to 16.66 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 608 to 200 and 52 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 2.09% to 29.86.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 1.07% or 12.50 to $1154.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.32% or 1.23 to hit $51.78 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.55% or 0.89 to trade at $56.27 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.96% to 1.0950, while EUR/GBP rose 0.19% to 0.7100.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.82% at 97.22.
