Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Telecoms and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 5.37% or 0.240 points to trade at 4.710 at the close. Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TO:TRQ) added 5.26% or 0.190 points to end at 3.800 and BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) was up 5.25% or 0.69 points to 13.84 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aimia Inc (TO:AIM), which lost 11.67% or 0.42 points to trade at 3.18 in late trade. Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) declined 3.96% or 0.12 points to end at 2.91 and Bonterra Energy Corp (TO:BNE) shed 3.22% or 0.60 points to 18.01.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 650 to 476 and 142 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.57% to 13.47.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.57% or 7.00 to $1237.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.59% or 0.29 to hit $48.56 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.26 to trade at $51.56 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.27% to 0.7356, while CAD/EUR fell 0.73% to 0.6635.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.77% at 98.05.
