Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrials, Energy and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which rose 28.77% or 0.42 points to trade at 1.88 at the close. MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG) added 7.58% or 0.66 points to end at 9.37 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was up 6.67% or 0.48 points to 7.68 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Empire Company Ltd (TO:EMPa), which lost 8.91% or 8.18 points to trade at 83.64 in late trade. Pengrowth Energy Corporation (TO:PGF) declined 6.85% or 0.10 points to end at 1.36 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) shed 6.34% or 0.13 points to 1.92.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 661 to 636 and 188 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.50% to 24.72.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.70% or 7.70 to $1109.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.50% or 1.54 to hit $45.70 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.34% or 1.11 to trade at $48.70 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.17% to 0.7558, while CAD/EUR fell 0.43% to 0.6704.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.44% at 95.53.
