Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials, Telecoms and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3), which rose 4.98% or 1.29 points to trade at 27.19 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 2.91% or 0.13 points to end at 4.59 and Itau Unibanco Banco Holding SA (SA:ITUB4) was up 2.55% or 0.79 points to 31.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lojas Renner SA (SA:LREN3), which lost 3.01% or 0.68 points to trade at 21.88 in late trade. Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) declined 2.69% or 1.43 points to end at 51.66 and MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3) shed 2.47% or 0.27 points to 10.66.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 175 to 171 and 37 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.26% to 36.05.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.85% or 9.70 to $1133.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.40% or 0.21 to hit $53.27 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.42% or 0.61 to trade at $143.62 .
USD/BRL was down 0.32% to 3.3545, while EUR/BRL fell 0.45% to 3.4845.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 103.31.
