Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 2.10% or 130.00 points to trade at 6335.00 at the close. Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD) added 1.50% or 5.600 points to end at 378.800 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) was up 1.00% or 28.00 points to 2818.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 5.31% or 7.9500 points to trade at 141.8500 in late trade. Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (LON:ADN) declined 4.94% or 13.60 points to end at 261.90 and Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) shed 4.93% or 53.00 points to 1023.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1523 to 605 and 462 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.88% or 10.70 to $1230.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.11% or 0.04 to hit $35.74 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.02 to trade at $37.71 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.74% to 1.4156, while EUR/GBP rose 0.80% to 0.8046.
The US Dollar Index was unchanged 0.00% at 94.59.
