Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Mining, Aerospace & Defense and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smiths Group PLC (L:SMIN), which rose 2.54% or 26.00 points to trade at 1051.00 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG) added 1.33% or 7.50 points to end at 570.00 and Unilever PLC (L:ULVR) was up 1.11% or 31.00 points to 2817.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which lost 6.16% or 7.9500 points to trade at 121.1500 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) declined 4.79% or 34.80 points to end at 691.70 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (L:RR) shed 3.90% or 29.50 points to 726.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1252 to 923 and 424 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.58% or 6.70 to $1162.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.43% or 1.70 to hit $47.93 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 3.04% or 1.61 to trade at $51.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.10% to 1.5344, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.7409.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.11% at 94.83.
