Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas Producers, Beverage and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.48% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 5.03% or 12.80 points to trade at 267.40 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 4.98% or 53.00 points to end at 1117.00 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 4.89% or 11.00 points to 235.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 7.94% or 135.00 points to trade at 1566.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.95% or 47.00 points to end at 1545.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 2.92% or 215.00 points to 7155.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 998 to 932 and 466 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.94% or 12.10 to $1282.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.62% or 0.85 to hit $51.56 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.71% or 0.94 to trade at $53.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.37% to 1.2795, while EUR/GBP rose 0.22% to 0.8373.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 99.69.
