Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Beverage and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 3.02% or 48.00 points to trade at 1640.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 2.08% or 5.90 points to end at 288.90 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 1.82% or 57.50 points to 3224.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which lost 4.80% or 11.00 points to trade at 218.00 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 2.69% or 45.00 points to end at 1631.00 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) shed 2.19% or 79.50 points to 3547.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1021 to 927 and 399 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.09% or 14.15 to $1279.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.26% or 0.12 to hit $45.84 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.03 to trade at $48.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.26% to 1.2925, while EUR/GBP fell 0.21% to 0.8672.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.35% at 97.01.
