Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 3.77% or 10.45 points to trade at 287.65 at the close. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 3.27% or 100.00 points to end at 3157.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 3.23% or 31.50 points to 1006.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 4.77% or 76.00 points to trade at 1516.00 in late trade. GKN PLC (LON:GKN) declined 4.30% or 14.90 points to end at 331.20 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) shed 2.25% or 46.00 points to 1994.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1267 to 700 and 448 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.09% or 1.08 to $1247.48 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.98% or 0.86 to hit $44.24 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.04% or 0.94 to trade at $46.98 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.50% to 1.2787, while EUR/GBP rose 0.72% to 0.8852.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.83% at 96.30.
