Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 15.17% or 83.50 points to trade at 634.00 at the close. London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) added 5.38% or 183.00 points to end at 3582.00 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) was up 2.99% or 250.00 points to 8615.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included 3I Group PLC (LON:III), which lost 2.96% or 27.50 points to trade at 901.00 in late trade. Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) declined 2.68% or 13.50 points to end at 489.50 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) shed 2.50% or 41.00 points to 1600.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1214 to 750 and 423 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 3.53 to $1265.37 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.48% or 0.22 to hit $46.30 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.50% or 0.24 to trade at $48.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.69% to 1.2746, while EUR/GBP fell 0.72% to 0.8787.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 97.05.
