Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 1.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Kingfisher (LONDON:KGF), which rose 4.33% or 15.80 points to trade at 380.60 at the close. Babcock International Group (LONDON:BAB) added 2.23% or 21.50 points to end at 984.50 and Persimmon (LONDON:PSN) was up 0.97% or 16.00 points to 1663.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American (LONDON:AAL), which lost 4.53% or 48.00 points to trade at 1012.00 in late trade. Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW) declined 3.44% or 10.10 points to end at 283.20 and Imperial Tobacco Group (LONDON:IMT) shed 3.42% or 105.00 points to 2963.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1446 to 702 and 354 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.16% or 1.90 to $1187.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.82% or 0.40 to hit $48.28 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.48 to trade at $55.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.31% to 1.4852, while EUR/GBP fell 1.15% to 0.7232.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.37% at 98.67.
