Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 declined 1.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Prudential PLC (LONDON:PRU), which rose 4.68% or 70.50 points to trade at 1577.00 at the close. Coca Cola HBC AG (LONDON:CCH) added 1.51% or 20.0 points to end at 1344.0 and Inmarsat PLC (LONDON:ISA) was up 0.98% or 9.50 points to 977.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which lost 7.26% or 14.95 points to trade at 191.00 in late trade. BHP Billiton PLC (LONDON:BLT) declined 5.00% or 60.50 points to end at 1148.50 and Burberry Group PLC (LONDON:BRBY) shed 4.42% or 71.00 points to 1536.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1757 to 787 and 502 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.33% or 3.60 to $1107.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.94% or 1.77 to hit $43.19 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.99% or 1.52 to trade at $49.49 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.19% to 1.5563, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.7092.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.05% at 97.28.
