Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Aerospace & Defense, Automobiles & Parts and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Marks & Spencer Group (LONDON:MKS), which rose 1.58% or 8.50 points to trade at 547.00 at the close. Reckitt Benckiser Group Plc (LONDON:RB) added 1.14% or 63.00 points to end at 5589.00 and Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG) was up 1.09% or 5.50 points to 510.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc (LONDON:RR), which lost 6.30% or 54.00 points to trade at 802.50 in late trade. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LONDON:RBS) declined 3.56% or 12.80 points to end at 346.50 and Schroders (LONDON:SDR) shed 3.56% or 113.00 points to 3061.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2078 to 559 and 467 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.12% or 1.40 to $1166.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.56% or 1.42 to hit $54.10 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.32% or 2.00 to trade at $58.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.37% to 1.5627, while EUR/GBP fell 0.63% to 0.7095.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 96.23.
