Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Metals & Mining and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.67% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 5.74% or 95.00 points to trade at 1751.00 at the close. CRH PLC (LON:CRH) added 4.93% or 134.00 points to end at 2854.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 4.88% or 15.70 points to 337.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which lost 1.83% or 7.60 points to trade at 407.00 in late trade. Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB) declined 1.21% or 11.50 points to end at 936.50 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 1.13% or 85.00 points to 7425.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1462 to 546 and 346 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.55% or 6.95 to $1246.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.11% or 0.06 to hit $53.95 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $56.48 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.46% to 1.2323, while EUR/GBP rose 0.41% to 0.8577.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 101.55.
