Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.65% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 9.16% or 53.60 points to trade at 638.70 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) added 5.08% or 22.750 points to end at 470.700 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 4.98% or 7.0500 points to 148.5500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 2.97% or 25.00 points to trade at 817.00 in late trade. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 2.35% or 90.00 points to end at 3742.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) shed 1.75% or 35.00 points to 1960.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1135 to 980 and 448 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.10% or 1.30 to $1256.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.07% or 1.24 to hit $41.60 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.32% or 1.42 to trade at $44.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.4245, while EUR/GBP fell 0.17% to 0.7995.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 94.05.
