Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Insurance, Household Goods & Home Construction and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.40% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which rose 4.71% or 15.40 points to trade at 342.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 3.31% or 43.00 points to end at 1344.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 2.81% or 32.00 points to 1173.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which lost 7.02% or 25.20 points to trade at 334.00 in late trade. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 6.44% or 56.00 points to end at 813.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 1.45% or 105.00 points to 7135.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1053 to 877 and 475 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.34% or 4.26 to $1251.24 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.60% or 0.31 to hit $51.16 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.55% or 0.30 to trade at $53.85 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.15% to 1.2939, while EUR/GBP rose 0.12% to 0.8639.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 97.31.
