Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Aerospace & Defense and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 6.57% or 380.00 points to trade at 6165.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 6.16% or 64.00 points to end at 1103.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 2.62% or 16.50 points to 646.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA), which lost 5.85% or 50.50 points to trade at 812.50 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 2.87% or 6.40 points to end at 216.70 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 2.39% or 54.00 points to 2205.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1122 to 909 and 499 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 1.78% or 22.70 to $1295.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.81% or 0.80 to hit $45.12 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.82% or 0.82 to trade at $45.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.35% to 1.4436, while EUR/GBP rose 0.51% to 0.7914.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 93.65.
