Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Forestry & Paper and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.09% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 3.85% or 69.00 points to trade at 1861.00 at the close. Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) added 2.72% or 180.00 points to end at 6794.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 2.33% or 130.00 points to 5705.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 4.78% or 77.00 points to trade at 1534.00 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 2.82% or 19.300 points to end at 665.700 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) shed 2.67% or 6.10 points to 222.05.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1024 to 898 and 446 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.38% or 4.35 to $1141.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.21% or 0.11 to hit $53.06 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.13 to trade at $55.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.64% to 1.2412, while EUR/GBP rose 0.56% to 0.8413.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 102.76.
