Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Insurance and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were RSA Insurance Group PLC (LONDON:RSA), which rose 18.43% or 80.700 points to trade at 518.500 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LONDON:HIK) added 11.59% or 241.00 points to end at 2321.00 and GKN PLC (LONDON:GKN) was up 7.32% or 21.60 points to 316.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Mail PLC (LONDON:RMG), which lost 3.43% or 17.30 points to trade at 486.70 in late trade. Babcock International Group PLC (LONDON:BAB) declined 2.08% or 22.00 points to end at 1038.00 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LONDON:MRW) shed 0.99% or 1.80 points to 179.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1419 to 1160 and 502 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.18% or 2.00 to $1094.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.58% or 0.75 to hit $48.14 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.21 to trade at $53.69 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.36% to 1.5616, while EUR/GBP fell 0.67% to 0.7078.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 96.78.
