Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Rio Tinto PLC (LONDON:RIO), which rose 1.84% or 47.50 points to trade at 2635.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES) added 1.80% or 11.50 points to end at 649.50 and Inmarsat PLC (LONDON:ISA) was up 1.68% or 16.00 points to 967.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Prudential PLC (LONDON:PRU), which lost 1.44% or 22.00 points to trade at 1506.50 in late trade. Tesco PLC (LONDON:TSCO) declined 1.41% or 3.05 points to end at 212.75 and J Sainsbury PLC (LONDON:SBRY) shed 1.23% or 3.30 points to 264.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1605 to 954 and 487 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.14% or 12.50 to $1106.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.07% or 0.91 to hit $44.78 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.15% or 1.55 to trade at $50.79 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.54% to 1.5571, while EUR/GBP fell 0.23% to 0.7064.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.30% at 97.36.
