Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Travis Perkins (LONDON:TPK), which rose 2.77% or 60.00 points to trade at 2224.00 at the close. RSA Insurance Group Plc (LONDON:RSA) added 1.79% or 7.500 points to end at 425.300 and Mondi Plc (LONDON:MNDI) was up 1.62% or 24.00 points to 1507.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GKN (LONDON:GKN), which lost 2.79% or 8.90 points to trade at 309.60 in late trade. Burberry Group (LONDON:BRBY) declined 2.59% or 42.00 points to end at 1578.00 and Randgold Resources (LONDON:RRS) shed 1.47% or 61.00 points to 4102.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1392 to 1165 and 518 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.56% or 6.50 to $1147.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.32% or 1.23 to hit $51.81 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.77% or 1.04 to trade at $57.64 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.5636, while EUR/GBP fell 0.36% to 0.7016.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.38% at 97.17.
