Up to half of Twitter staff are now facing the sack despite Elon Musk previous denial he was planning widespread job cut.
Elon Musk has now developed plans to fire up to 3,700 Twitter workers, potentially within the week, according to reports.
It comes after Musk dissolved the company’s board earlier in the week, giving himself complete control of the company he's just bought.
Amid Musk's to make Twitter profitable and “healthy,” as he himself described, the job cuts are one among several policies emerging since the rocketman's takeover.
Musk has announced an $8 monthly subscription charge for those wanting a blue tick on their Twitter profiles to prove they are verified.
He claimed this can also help tackle bots and the use of fake accounts on the social media platform.
Concern has also been raised over “free speech” claims made by Musk, amid reports Twitters content guidelines could be changed.
LeBron James and Toni Braxton both tweeted outlining their concerns about the fine line between free speech and hate speech, whilst Stephen King added Twitter should pay celebrities rather than charging them for verification.
In response to the barrage of complaints directed towards the new CEO, Musk changed his profile biography to “Twitter complaint hotline operator,” whilst estimates have been made that his net worth has decreased by US$9bn since he bought the social media company.
