Benzinga - by Franca Quarneti, Benzinga Staff Writer.

Gamers eagerly waiting for the debut of Assassin's Creed Jade will have to wait until 2025.

The game's developer, Tencent Holdings ADR (OTC: TCEHY), has reportedly delayed the release of the mobile game.

The decision stems from a strategic shift within Tencent, with resources being redirected from Assassin’s Creed Jade to the recently launched DreamStar party game.

Reuters disclosed that hundreds of staff members working on Assassin’s Creed Jade have been reassigned to DreamStar.

Assassin’s Creed Jade, a mobile spin-off set in ancient China, has been in development for over four years.

The delay is attributed to Tencent's new focus on shifting away from developing Western franchises for mobile platforms due to narrow profit margins. Instead, Tencent aims to concentrate on creating games similar to NetEase's Eggy Party and miHoYo's Genshin Impact, which utilize their own intellectual properties, enabling Tencent to retain a larger share of the profits.

Level Infinite, a subsidiary of Tencent, in collaboration with Ubisoft Entertainment SA (OTC: UBSFF), is responsible for the development of Assassin’s Creed Jade, marking the first full game within the franchise exclusively designed for mobile devices.

Meanwhile, the next mainline installment in the Assassin's Creed series, codenamed Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, is scheduled for release by the end of March 2025.
