Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Iron & Steel, Cement and Cement & Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted gained 1.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Rotam (TW:4141), which rose 10.00% or 3.50 points to trade at 38.50 at the close. China Steel St (TW:2013) added 9.98% or 2.25 points to end at 24.80 and Shin Shin Nat (TW:9918) was up 9.97% or 3.10 points to 34.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Candmark (TW:5259), which lost 9.84% or 0.31 points to trade at 2.84 in late trade. Shuttle (TW:2405) declined 4.44% or 0.50 points to end at 10.75 and Novatek Microe (TW:3034) shed 4.08% or 5.00 points to 117.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 577 to 175 and 99 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was down 1.92% or 0.81 to $41.36 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 1.72% or 0.77 to hit $43.92 a barrel, while the June Gold contract fell 0.82% or 10.40 to trade at $1250.50 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.11% to 32.340, while TWD/CNY fell 0.20% to 0.1992.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 94.25.
