Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Glass, Paper & Pulp and Optoelectronic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 0.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Asia Optical (TW:3019), which rose 9.94% or 3.35 points to trade at 37.05 at the close. Pao Lung (TW:1906) added 9.86% or 2.15 points to end at 23.95 and Jui Li (TW:1512) was up 9.80% or 0.64 points to 7.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Roo Hsing (TW:4414), which lost 3.99% or 0.80 points to trade at 19.25 in late trade. Ichia (TW:2402) declined 3.82% or 0.65 points to end at 16.35 and Aopen (TW:3046) shed 3.73% or 0.23 points to 5.94.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 501 to 233 and 136 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.13% or 0.07 to $52.30 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.54% or 0.30 to hit $55.56 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 1.20% or 14.35 to trade at $1210.55 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.48% to 31.548, while TWD/CNY rose 0.23% to 0.2186.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.45% at 101.07.
