Proactive Investors - Shell PLC (LON:SHEL)-branded forecourts are the most expensive in the UK for both petrol and diesel, according to latest data published by the RAC Foundation.
Shell (LON:RDSa) sites currently charge 142.6p per litre for petrol on average across 724 polled stations, with diel coming to 151.2p per litre.
Supermarket-branded fuel emerged as the cheapest, with Morrison’s winning gold, followed by ASDA, J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO).
“Topping this price league table should give retailers cause for concern,” said RAC Foundation director Steve Gooding.
Speaking to the PA news agency, Gooding stated: "While this data shows that on average supermarket-branded fuel is most keenly priced, as might be expected, motorists would still be best advised to shop around because the data also shows that prices are influenced by local competition.
Average petrol pump prices were 140.4p per litre and 148.22p for diesel as of 8 January, marking a 9.7% and 8.6% respective reduction from the price spike witnessed in the second half of 2023.
