Investing.com – Netherlands equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Consumer Goods and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX lost 2.47% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were TNT Express (AMS:TNTE), which fell 0.42% or 0.032 points to trade at 7.610 at the close. DSM Kon (AMS:DSMN) fell 0.70% or 0.36 points to end at 50.97 and NN Group (AMS:NN) was down 0.86% or 0.23 points to 25.93 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Altice SA (AMS:ATCE), which lost 5.58% or 5.46 points to trade at 92.33 in late trade. Ahold Kon (AMS:AHLN) declined 5.24% or 0.96 points to end at 17.36 and Arcelormittal (AMS:ISPA) shed 4.31% or 0.43 points to 9.57.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 204 to 42 and 10 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 9.80% to 22.24 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 3.10% or 1.77 to $58.83 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 2.27% or 1.47 to hit $66.11 a barrel, while the June Gold contract fell 0.35% or 4.20 to trade at $1209.70 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was up 1.69% to 1.1166, while EUR/GBP rose 0.80% to 0.7215.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.34% at 94.90.
