Investing.com – Netherlands equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX rose 2.16% to hit a new 5-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were TNT Express (AMS:TNTE), which rose 28.13% or 1.689 points to trade at 7.693 at the close. Arcelormittal (AMS:ISPA) added 3.97% or 0.34 points to end at 9.01 and Royal Dutch Shell A (AMS:RDSa) was up 3.72% or 1.03 points to 28.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ASML Holding (AMS:ASML), which added 0.30% or 0.28 points to trade at 93.32 in late trade. OCI (AMS:OCI) added 0.38% or 0.110 points to end at 29.155 and KPN Kon (AMS:KPN) gained 0.45% or 0.015 points to 3.345.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 212 to 43 and 3 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was down 6.55% to 18.27.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was up 2.93% or 1.53 to $53.67 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 1.45% or 0.84 to hit $58.97 a barrel, while the June Gold contract fell 0.59% or 7.20 to trade at $1211.40 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was down 0.66% to 1.0850, while EUR/GBP fell 0.52% to 0.7303.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.73% at 97.91.
