Proactive Investors - Elon Musk has announced that Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) users’ email addresses will be handed out to accounts they subscribe to under a new feature on the site.
Users will be asked to agree to their email addresses being shared with holders of accounts to which they subscribe, Musk unveiled in a tweet on Wednesday.
Account holders will then be able to contact their followers if they leave the site, he explained.
This platform will provide email addresses of subscribers (who opt in) to content creators, so that creators are able to leave this platform easily & take their subscribers with them if they want— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 7, 2023
Twitter users have been able to ‘monetise’ their accounts since April under a new feature which allows posts to be placed behind a paywall.
Followers can then pay to see these exclusive posts, with a subscription to Elon Musk’s account costing £3.96 per month.
Twitter has been grappling with new innovative ways to make money since Musk bought the company for US$44bn in October.
However, markdowns of investors’ stakes in the business last month suggested Twitter’s value has continually plummeted since the deal was signed, mainly as advertisers have fled over relaxed content moderation on the site.
