Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Metals and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty declined 2.33% to hit a new 6-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 2.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Bajaj Auto Limited (NSE:BAJA), which rose 0.77% or 17.20 points to trade at 2249.90 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NSE:SUN) added 0.33% or 3.00 points to end at 901.95 and Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NSE:ABUJ) was up 0.19% or 0.40 points to 207.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Punjab National Bank (NSE:PNBK), which lost 6.94% or 10.05 points to trade at 134.80 in late trade. Bank Of Baroda (NSE:BOB) declined 6.63% or 12.25 points to end at 172.50 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NSE:KTKM) shed 5.82% or 37.95 points to 613.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 0.34% to 900.75, Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was down 0.14% to settle at 2251.75 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which lost 0.50% to close at 2385.30.
The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 5.24% to 480.15 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 5.18% to settle at 75.90 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 3.93% to 216.20 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1217 to 204 and 9 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 632 fell and 112 advanced, while 2 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 16.76% to 28.7175 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.89% or 10.10 to $1142.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.63% or 0.80 to hit $48.40 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.96% or 1.06 to trade at $53.09 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.24% to 66.252, while EUR/INR rose 0.20% to 74.6120.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.36% at 95.61.
