Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty fell 0.25% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO), which rose 5.97% or 22.80 points to trade at 404.85 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 1.73% or 21.35 points to end at 1254.30 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (NS:HROM) was up 1.48% or 38.30 points to 2621.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML), which lost 2.49% or 13.85 points to trade at 542.90 in late trade. ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS:ICBK) declined 2.18% or 6.10 points to end at 273.35 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) shed 2.10% or 6.45 points to 300.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which rose 6.02% to 405.05, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 1.71% to settle at 1253.90 and Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which gained 1.41% to close at 2455.45.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was down 2.06% to 273.40 in late trade, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which lost 1.92% to settle at 301.55 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.84% to 852.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 826 to 622 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 455 fell and 328 advanced, while 1 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 1.02% to 19.3550.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.33% or 3.70 to $1117.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.31% or 0.15 to hit $48.05 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.24 to trade at $50.78 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 65.560, while EUR/INR fell 0.49% to 71.5350.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.29% at 97.53.
