Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Auto, Real Estate and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty declined 0.07%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Coal India Limited (NSE:COAL), which rose 3.38% or 14.20 points to trade at 434.15 at the close. Infosys Ltd (NSE:INFY) added 2.22% or 21.10 points to end at 971.25 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NSE:BPCL) was up 1.94% or 17.65 points to 926.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd . (NSE:TAMO), which lost 4.02% or 16.15 points to trade at 385.95 in late trade. State Bank Of India (NSE:SBI) declined 2.01% or 5.50 points to end at 268.20 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) shed 1.92% or 2.05 points to 104.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which rose 3.33% to 434.05, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 2.11% to settle at 970.10 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 1.91% to close at 927.45.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 4.10% to 385.75 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 1.83% to settle at 104.60 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.81% to 268.60 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 791 to 644 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 405 rose and 345 declined, while 2 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 1.61% to 16.0100.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.23% or 2.60 to $1152.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.98% or 1.03 to hit $51.16 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.80% or 1.04 to trade at $57.10 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 63.461, while EUR/INR rose 0.24% to 69.9740.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 96.81.
