Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, Metals and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.31%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM), which rose 1.46% or 9.65 points to trade at 669.60 at the close. NTPC Limited (NS:NTPC) added 1.41% or 1.80 points to end at 129.15 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD) was up 1.20% or 1.65 points to 139.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which lost 9.19% or 8.90 points to trade at 87.95 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 8.82% or 8.05 points to end at 83.25 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) shed 5.69% or 18.05 points to 299.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which rose 1.06% to 128.70, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 0.42% to settle at 357.60 and Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which gained 0.04% to close at 2355.50.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 9.04% to 88.05 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 8.66% to settle at 83.35 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 5.23% to 300.05 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1148 to 291 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 651 fell and 168 advanced, while 30 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.97% to 17.4850.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.42% or 5.10 to $1218.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.46% or 0.18 to hit $39.64 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.05 to trade at $41.08 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.34% to 66.600, while EUR/INR unchanged 0.00% to 74.8040.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 96.29.
