Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.52%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Housing Development Finance Corp. (NS:HDFC), which rose 2.76% or 30.30 points to trade at 1129.90 at the close. NTPC Limited (NS:NTPC) added 1.65% or 2.25 points to end at 138.80 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 1.19% or 8.70 points to 737.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which lost 11.57% or 27.25 points to trade at 208.25 in late trade. Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) declined 6.80% or 27.85 points to end at 381.80 and Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv) shed 6.33% or 19.00 points to 281.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which rose 2.86% to 1131.00, NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was up 1.35% to settle at 138.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd. (BO:HDBK) which gained 0.89% to close at 1127.40.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 6.76% to 381.80 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 5.83% to settle at 91.30 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 5.60% to 328.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1114 to 322 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 629 fell and 200 advanced, while 25 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.10% to 17.4450.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.10% or 14.15 to $1277.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.37% or 0.16 to hit $43.81 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.29% or 0.13 to trade at $45.10 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.08% to 66.610, while EUR/INR fell 0.15% to 76.4040.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 93.23.
